In the final round of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate the Mason golf team turned in their highest score of the 54 hole event to finish in 12th. The event was contested on the par 72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina course.
Mason was led by freshman Kyle Hart, who finished tied for 35th with a three-round 220 (72-73-75). Junior Zack Lauzon was just three strokes back with a (74-74-75) 223 and tied for 41st.
USC Upstate led wire-to-wire to claim the team title with an 852 total. Presbyterian College fired the low team round of the day (279) to climb four spots and place second at 854. Samford University finished third at 857, while Francis Marion and Elon University tied for fourth at 858.
Wofford College (862) occupied sixth position, followed by Radford University (869); Jacksonville University (872), Georgia College (877), Appalachian State University (881), Longwood University' 2s (885), and George Mason University (903).
Presbyterian's Carter Davis carded a four-under 68 to claim medalist honors with a 10-under par 206 total. His total was only four strokes shy of the tournament record of 202 set by Brent Paladino of William and Mary in 2008. Four golfers finished in a tie for secon three strokes behind Davis.
Mason's next tournament is the VCU Shootout September 23-24.
