EUGENE, Ore. – Senior David Verburg gave himself an opportunity for one more lap around the track in his collegiate career, and he finished with a flourish as he placed fourth in the finals of the 400m dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday evening.

Setting a personal record, Verburg crossed the line neck-and-neck with Florida's Arman Hall, finishing in 45.03, just 0.01 seconds behind Hall. The time also improved his second-place standings in the all-time record book for the Patriots.

Verburg concludes an outstanding career at Mason as a four-time CAA champion in the 400m in addition to several IC4A championships and All-America accolades. He was named the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2010, and last season was tabbed the CAA Male Track Athlete of the Meet (Championships), CAA Male Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA Southeast Region Male Athlete of the Year in addition to participating in the Olympic trials.
