Women's Tennis Adds Five to Roster with Incoming Class

George Mason women's tennis head coach Stephen Curtis has announced the addition of five incoming student-athletes to the Patriot's team. The recruiting class consists of Marijke Boers (The Bolles School/Jacksonville, Fla.), Jamie Cochrane (Cosby H.S./ Midlothian, Va), Olivia Lacy-Thompson (Briarcliff Manor/Briarcliff Manor, NY), Sophia Santa Maria (Baldwin School/Puerto Rico) and Morgan Yang (West Springfield H.S./Springfield, Va.

 “I am very excited about our incoming freshmen, “said Curtis. “They will add tremendous depth to our team. All five players bring a wealth of experience to our program and will help our program continue to improve as we enter the very strong A10 Conference.”

Boer's, a native of Jacksonville, Fla, has been ranked as high as 270 nationally. As a senior, she was named captain of the Bulldogs and finished with a 23-2 record and placed runner-up on the FHSAA State. She also is a singer who has been accepted into the honors program.

A native of Midlothian, Va., Cochrane has been as high as 500 nationally. She was 2012 Second team all-metro and was Virginia State High School runner-up in the same year. She and her partner finished second in doubles last year.

Lacy-Thompson is from Briarcliff Manor, NY. She has been ranked as high as 290 in the country. She was all league and all section for four years while earning a Conference 3 championship in 2011. She was also a four-time MVP while being named to the Varsity All-Star Team from 2010-2012.

Sofia Santa Maria has been training at the Club Med Academy in Florida. She is a native of Puerto Rico and has been ranked as high as 210 in the United States. Most recently Sofia has primarily been playing ITF tournaments and has been has high as 600 ITF.

Yang is a local product of Springfield, Va. She has been as high as 310 nationally. She was the MVP during the years of 2010-2012 in the Patriot District and was named captain in 2013. Yang also was a Virginia State semi-finalist in both singles and doubles in 2012.
