Fairfax, VA--Three George Mason University wrestlers have qualified for the U.S. World Team Trials to be held June 21-23 on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Rising junior Jake Kettler will wrestle in the senior Greco-Roman division at 120 KG. Rising sophomores Sahid Kargbo will wrestle Greco-Roman in the junior division at 66KG and Matt Meadows will wrestle in the Freestyle Junior division at 96KG.
A Ramsey, Minn, native, Kettler placed 7th in the US Open National tournament to qualify for the final World Team trials. As a sophomore this past season, he finished second at 285 in the CAA Championships and was an NCAA Championship qualifier. He earned a fourth place finish at the ASICS University & FILA Cadet Nationals in April.
Kargbo placed 3rd in the FILA Junior National Championships to qualify for the final Junior World Team trials. As a freshman for the Patriots this season, he finished with a 19-14 overall record, 11-6 dual record and earned CAA Co-Rookie of the Week. He led the Patriots with four major decision wins.
Meadows received a wild card selected by the national developmental coach. A Medina, Ohio, native, he wrestled in every dual match as a freshman. He posted a 16-19 overall record and a 7-10 dual record with two falls. He placed fifth at ASICS University Nationals and earned National All-American status.
The winner of the senior trials will compete at the World Championships in September in Budapest, Hungary. The winner of the junior trials will represent the USA at the Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria in August.
