NEW ORLEANS, La. – With the 2013 collegiate outdoor track and field season complete, the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) handed out All-America accolades, and seven George Mason athletes were honored.
Senior David Verburg took home first team honors in the 400m, the women's 4x400m relay of Daianna Barron, Dominique Graham, Cierra McGee and Taylor Wheaton were tabbed to the second team, while the men's 4x400m relay of Angel Coburn, Da'Quan Smalls, Adrian Vaughn and Verburg were named honorable mention.
Based on performance at last weekend's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, First-Team USTFCCCA All-America honors were awarded to those who earned any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reached an eight-entrant final. Second-Team All-America honors were handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet ranged from ninth to 16th place. Those who participated at the final site but did not place in the meet's top 16 were listed as honorable mention for the All-America award.
Verburg led the way after finishing in fourth place in the men's 400m with a PR of 45.03 to take home first team honors. It is his third All-America honor in the event, and second-consecutive season collecting first team accolades.
The women's 4x400m relay of Barron, Graham, McGee and Wheaton garnered second team honors after recording the 12th-fastest time at the meet (3:35.04), while the men's 4x400m relay of Coburn, Verburg, Smalls and Vaughn collected honorable mention accolades with a 24th-place finish (3:10.30).
