FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team finished the 2012-13 season on a high note, sweeping the Drexel Dragons in their final Colonial Athletic Association three-game series. The Patriots defeated the Drexel by a 1-0 decision and shut out the Dragons in all three games.
Mason wasted no time getting on the board with one run in the bottom of the first. Lauren McColgan, who reached on a bunt single, scored off a Brooke Blankenship single to center field. It would be the only run scored in the game but it would be enough to give the Patriots the win.
The Patriots has an opportunity to add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded but were unable to bring any around as Samantha Barney fouled out to left field and McColgan popped up to third base.
Anna Blessing picked up her third win of the season and second of the series, limiting the Dragons to three hits and Blankenship was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Hanna Parrish, Shelby Taylor and Jill Popek each had one hit apiece for the Dragons.
