FAIRFAX, Va. – Six George Mason rowers picked up Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) honors when the 2013 National Scholar-Athlete selections were announced. This marks the first year since 2009 Mason has placed six or more student-athletes on the list.
Seniors Meredith Bennett and Madison Beumer received the honor for the third consecutive year. The pair was joined on the list with fellow sophomore teammates Amanda Houlihan, Jackson Hug and Hayley Walczer and junior Nathalie Rosado-Burgos. The recognition marks the first for Houlihan, Hug, Rosado-Burgos and Walczer.
To be eligible for scholar-athlete status, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically, compete in a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or race in a regional event and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater for her career.
All seven Colonial Athletic Association member institutions placed student-athletes on the list as Buffalo, Boston, Eastern Michigan, Delaware, Drexel and Northeastern also were represented. To view a complete list of the honorees, please click here.
