Game of the Week - George Mason students will receive a Mason Athletics beach ball

Homerun Derby - After the doubleheader on Friday, sixteen Mason students (eight men and eight women) will compete in the first ever George Mason Softball Homerun Derby. In the first round, each participant will hit as many homeruns as possible before committing five outs.  Any swing that does not result in a homerun will be considered an out. Prizes include an iPad Mini for the male and female champion and finalists will receive a prize that consists of  iPod shuffles, Beats earphones, Nationals tickets and more.

NEWS & NOTES

The George Mason softball team will host Drexel this weekend for a Colonial Athletic Association three-game series to close out the 2012-13 season. Before Saturday's game the Patriots will honor this season's three graduating seniors: Samantha Barney, Megan Blank and Reagan Doiron.

Last weekend, the Towson Tigers swept Mason in a close CAA three-game series. In each game the Patriots were within one run but were unable to push past the Tigers. As she has done all season, Brooke Blankenship continues to lead the Patriots offensively hitting .308 with 48 hits, 14 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 34 RBI's.

The Dragons recently won a CAA three-game series with UNCW. Drexel took the first two games of the series while UNCW won the decision in the third game. Leading the Drexel offense is Jenn Reading, hitting .429 with 28 hits, six doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI's.

Mason owns a 19-15 all-time record against the Dragons. Drexel took the three-game series last season over Mason, 2-1.
