PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – George Mason's novice four and varsity pair took home silver and bronze medals as the rowing team capped a strong performance at the 75th annual Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday. The two-day event was held on the Schuylkill River.
Racing opened for the Patriots with their first two boats of the day advancing to the grand finals in the afternoon. Mason's novice four was first on the water and took its semi with a time of 07:33.994 beating out Villanova, Bowdoin, Georgia Tech, Sacred Heart and Rochester Institute of Technology. Next on the course, the Patriots took second in the varsity pair with a time of 08:21.673. Mason advanced with first-place Oklahoma City to the grand final.
Up next, Mason's varsity four finished fourth in its semi race crossing in 08:06.233. In the final semi race of the morning, the varsity eight advanced to the petite finals with a fourth-place finish. The Patriots finished with a time of 07:06.747 reaching the petite final with Cal-Sacramento.
With three boats racing in the finals, Mason's novice four got things started in its grand final. The Patriots took home a silver medal in 07:41.878 behind Fairfield. Villanova took third place. Racing in the petite final, the varsity eight finished fifth with a time of 06:51.101.
Mason took home its second medal in the final race of the day, the varsity pair. In a tight race, the Patriots claimed the bronze medal after narrowly edging out Case. Mason crossed the finish line in 07:55.288, while fourth place finished in 07:55.622.
