OCCOQUAN, Va. - The George Mason rowing team saw strong finishes in the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday, placing three boats in their petite finals. The full-day event took place on the Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Regional Park.
The Novice 8 kicked things off finishing eighth in its respective heat and took fourth in their petite final later in the afternoon beating out James Madison and Loyola. Next on the water for the Patriots, the Varsity 8 claimed fourth in its preliminary heat and also took fourth in the petite final with a time of 06:34.26 to close out the day of racing.
Mason's Varsity 4 opened the finals competition taking second place, just .77 seconds out of first-place Navy with a time of 07:28.36. The Varsity 4 B posted a solid finish with fourth place. Following a fifth-place finish, the Second Varsity 8 took second in its petite final with a time of 06:11.17, just behind first-place UNC (06:07.10).
