FAIRFAX, Va. – In the final week before the CAA Track and Field Championships the George Mason squad took home two weekly conference honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Sophomore Bethany Sachtleben was tabbed as the women's track athlete of the week, while senior Patrick Dietrick was named the men's field athlete of the week. The selections mark the 11th and 12th weekly honors for the Patriots this season.
Northeastern's Eric Jenkins took home men's track athlete of the week honors, and W&M's Natalie Baird was recognized as the women's field athlete of the week.
Running the 10,000m for the first time in her collegiate track career, Sachtleben made a splash at the Penn Relays winning the event in 34:30.32. The time qualified her for the ECAC Championships and is the second-fastest time in program history. It is also the second-fastest time in the CAA and 23rd in the East region.
Dietrick punched his ticket to the IC4A championships after finishing seventh with a vault of 4.80m on Friday at the Penn Relays. The height was a season-best and ties his PR.
The Patriots return to action this weekend, as select individuals will vie for CAA conference titles. Both squads are ineligible for team titles since Mason is moving to the A-10 for next season.
