BALTIMORE, Md. – Towson (29-23-1, 11-7) swept the George Mason softball team (15-37, 3-15) in a Colonial Athletic Association three-game series winning the final game of the series by a 2-1 decision on Sunday.
The Tigers scored both runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Bina Abbot and Macie McGeehan scored two unearned runs off a Maureen Hepner single. McGeehan and Abbot reached on a fielder's choice and a fielding error, respectively.
Mason brought the score to within one in the top of the fifth. After a Casey Price RBI single to center field, Megan Blank was able to touch home. Blank had originally reached on a fielder's choice.
The Patriots had a chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs on the board Mason was unable to bring any runners home as Brooke Blankenship flied out to center field for the third out.
Mason had a total of eight hits in the game, Price and Tiffany Webb had two hits apiece. Katie Lingmai was the winning pitcher for Towson.
The Patriots return to action this Friday, May 3, at home for a doubleheader with Drexel at 12 p.m.
