FAIRFAX, Va. – After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, Hofstra (31-11, 12-2) came up with a 3-0 win in the final game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with the George Mason softball team (15-32, 3-12), Sunday at the George Mason softball complex.
The game was scoreless after three innings until Hofstra put two on the board in top of the fourth. Olivia Galati and Erin Trippi, both reaching on walks, scored off a Jess Hirschbuhl two RBI single to left field.
The Pride brought the score to 3-0 in the top of the fifth when Caryn Bailey scored off a wild pitch. Bailey had originally reached after being hit by a pitch.
Mason had two runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth, with runners on second and third. Hofstra would escape the inning unharmed as Galati struck out Amanda Bender for the third out.
The Patriots saw themselves in the same scoring position in the top of the sixth with runners on third and second. Tiffany Webb, who had singled, and Megan Blank, who reached on a fielder's choice, were moved to third and second, respectively, off a Blankenship at bat. Mason would be unable to capitalize on the situation as Angela Maioran would ground out to the shortstop for the third out.
Galati was dominate on the mound for Hofstra with four three-up three-down innings in the game. Casey Price was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Patriots and Hirschbuhl was 2-for-2 for the Pride.
Mason returns to action this Wednesday for a doubleheader with Norfolk State at the George Mason softball complex at 4 p.m.
