WACO, Texas – Even with a small number of sprinters competing at the Baylor Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic on Saturday, the George Mason track and field team made their presence known with a strong showing.

David Verburg won both the 200m afternoon and 400m evening sessions to set the tone. He won the 200m in 21.19, and was joined by teammates Angel Coburn (22.23, 9^th) and Da'Quan Smalls (22.55, 13^th) in the event. Running the evening session of the 400m, Verburg took the top spot in 45.56, besting his previous IC4A time.

Competing in the afternoon session of the 100m, Adrian Vaughn won heat 1 and finished third overall with a PR and IC4A time of 10.73. Also competing in the event was Smalls, who placed 12^th in a time of 11.13, just .01 off of his PR for the event. Vaughn also ran in the evening session of the 200m, finishing seventh in a time of 21.45.

Vaughn, Smalls, Verburg and Coburn teamed up in the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay, to finish in third place with a time of 3:12.37. The time is a season-best and improves upon a previous IC4A qualifying time.

The Patriots return to action next week, competing at the Penn Relays.
