The George Mason softball teams hosts the University of Virginia, in non-conference action, Wednesday, for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
The Patriots recently won their three-game series against Colonial Athletic Association-foe UNCW this past weekend. The teams split the doubleheader on Saturday with Mason taking the first game in twelve innings, 2-1, and then falling 2-8 in the second game. The Patriots rallied back on Sunday however to win 6-5 in nine innings.
Sophomore Brooke Blankenship leads the Patriots offense hitting .308, 28 hits, nine doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI's.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers enter the contest 14-16 overall and recently just won a three-game ACC series with Boston College. Virginia only dropped the second game 2-3 in nine innings.
Senior Pitcher Melanie Mitchell recently was the first cavalier to reach 1,000 career strikeouts and with her last win tied the school record of 74 wins. Marcy Bowdren leads the cavalier offense hitting .372 with 35 hits, four doubles, a triple, three home runs and 15 RBI's.
