NORFOLK, Va. – Closing out a three-game homestand on Friday evening, the George Mason lacrosse team dropped a 16-9 decision at Old Dominion. Allie Hilderbrandt led Mason with four goals, matching her career-high for the second time this season.
In addition to Hilderbrandt's four goals, Rachel Obregon and Megan Bisson each tallied multiple goals for the Patriots (5-10, 0-6 CAA) with two apiece. Allison Pinard rounded out the scoring with a tally of her own. Jordynn Collins and Emily Austerberry led ODU with three goals each. The Lady Monarchs (4-12, 2-4 CAA) won the edge in shots (40-24), ground balls (23-16) and draw controls (15-12). Brittany Pastrana played the full game in cage, recording 14 saves and leading the team with six ground balls.
After ODU opened the scoring with a goal at the 29:10 mark, Hilderbrandt scored her first goal of the evening at 27:06 to tie the score at 1-1. Hilderbrandt snapped a 5-0 ODU run at 15:34, while also jumpstarting a 3-0 Mason spurt fueled by two goals from Obregon as the Patriots cut the score to 6-4 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The teams traded goals to end the half as ODU led at the break, 7-5.
ODU kept Mason off the scoreboard for nearly 10 minutes in the second half while posting five unanswered goals of their own. Pinard, with her first goal of the season, converted a free position attempt at 20:25 for a 12-6 score. The Lady Monarchs added a trio of goals over the next 11 minutes to take a 15-6 lead as Mason closed the game scoring three of the final four goals. Bisson recorded her first two goals of the season as Hilderbrandt scored the final goal of the game with 45 seconds on the clock for the final 16-9 score.
Mason closes out regular season play hosting William and Mary on Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
