WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 18, 2013) –Four Mason men's tennis teammates earn 2013 Colonial Athletic Association honors by a committee of the league's head coaches. Junior Jimmy Davis was chosen for the All-CAA second team and senior Jordan Dyke All-CAA third team in singles. Taylor Sargent and freshman Tanner Baine were selected for the All-CAA third team in doubles. The Patriots had one of their best seasons with a 14-7 record.
"Congratulations to Jordan, Jimmy, Taylor and Tanner on earning selections to the CAA all-conference teams," said Head Coach Gary Quam. "Each of them have made significant contributions to the tennis team throughout the season and played a major role in the team's very successful season."
Playing for the Patriots for a second season, Jimmy Davis (Manassas, Va) finished with a 20-8 overall record, improving on a 17-14 record from his sophomore season. During the spring dual match season Davis compiled a 13-5 record, with all but one match from the second position. In March he had an eight-match win streak and finished the last 10 matches of the season with a 7-3 record.
Jordan Dyke (Alexandria, Va) was selected to the All-CAA third team for the second straight season. Dyke compiled a 12-8 singles record this spring as the Patriot's top player. He started the spring season with an eight-match win streak. The senior played one season at VCU, after he sat out his freshman year with a medical redshirt, before transferring to Mason for his final two years of eligibility.
The Patriots doubles team of junior Taylor Sargent (Littleton, Colo.) and freshman Tanner Baine (Virginia Beach, Va.) were the first Mason doubles team to earn All-CAA honors since Brian Fitzgerald and Daniel Schneider were selected to the All-CAA third-team in 2009. Sargent competed with five different partners in doubles compiling an overall 18-8 record, 11-7 in duals. Baine partnered with five different teammates to finish 16-10, 10-8 in duals. The Sargent/Baine team finished 7-6 overall, competing at both the top slot and third position doubles.
The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the start of the 2013 CAA Tennis Championships, which get underway on Friday at the Millie West Tennis Facility on the campus of the College of William & Mary. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 2 p.m. on April 21.
