RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason track and field team picked up its eighth weekly CAA Athlete of the Week honor, as Shavon Briscoe was named the CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Briscoe competed in both the 100m and 400m hurdles at the Mason Spring Invitational over the weekend, recording a PR in both events. In the 100m hurdles she finished second in a time of 13.52, moving up to second in the all-time record books at Mason and improving her previous ECAC qualifying mark. The time is currently best on the team and in the CAA and 16th in the East Region.
Running the 400m hurdles, Briscoe crossed the finish line in1:03.40 to finish in fifth place. The time puts her second on the team and third in the conference this season.
William and Mary swept the other weekly awards, as Bob Smutsky was named the male track athlete, Brian Waterfield took home male field athlete and Natalie Baird was tabbed as the women field athlete of the week.
The Patriots return to action this weekend in three separate meets.
