FAIRFAX, Va. – Tucker Tobin blasted his eighth home run of the season, but the Maryland baseball team outlasted Mason in a Wednesday affair at Spuhler Field, winning 16-1.

With the win Maryland improved to 18-15 overall while Mason dropped to 12-21. UMD starter Jake Stinnett picked up the win to move his record to 2-4, while Mason starter Michael Bowie took the loss to even his season record at 1-1.

In the top of the first inning, Charlie White singled, stole second and third before LaMonte Wade walked to put runners on the corners with no outs. Kyle Convissar then stepped to the plate and hit a double deep to left field, scoring both base runners to give the Terps a 2-0 lead.

Adding two more in the fourth, Maryland put two runners on before Jack Cleary hit an RBI double to left and Jose Cuas recorded an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4-0. The Terps tacked on two more in the sixth, pushing the advantage to 8-0 and doubled that lead with eight runs in the top of the eighth for the final 16-0 margin.

Tobin's home run came in the bottom of the ninth, as he took a 0-1 count deep over the left field wall for his eighth run of the season to put the Patriots on the board, 16-1.

Blaise Fernandez went 2-for-4 at the plate, extending his on base streak to 40 games, while Tobin finished 1-for-4 with the lone Mason RBI. Bowie went 4.0 innings, allowing for runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout before the Patriots used seven additional pitchers to close the game.
