FAIRFAX, Va. - The
George Mason softball team went 0-2 in the second day of the Mason Invitational, falling to both Monmouth and Longwood.
Monmouth got off to an
early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Kaitie Schumacher and Kayla Weiser scored
for the Hawks. Schumacher scored off Weiser's double and Weiser scored a Kate Kuzma
single.
The Patriots rallied
back in the third to bring the score to within one at 2-1. Lauren McColgan
scored for Mason after Megan Blank hit a single up the right field line.
Nikki Sandelier scored
the last run of the game for the Hawks in the sixth inning to bringing the
score to 3-1.
In Mason's second game,
Longwood took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, Kori Nishitomi scored
after Megan Baltzell hit a double to left center. Blatzell scored the second
run for the Lancers off a Emily Murphy single.
Jamie Barbour and Katie
Shinrock each added a run for Longwood in the second and fourth innings,
respectively. Barbour scored off a Baltzell sacrifice fly and Shinrock scored
off a Nishitomi RBI single.
Mason's only run of the
game came from Blank in the sixth inning. Blank scored off a Casey Price
single. Longwood won the game 4-1.
Mason returns to action
tomorrow for a 9:00 a.m. with Cornell in the final day of the Mason
Invitational.
