RALEIGH, N.C. – The George Mason team took home two event wins, two ECAC and four IC4A marks as it wrapped up competition at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State, on Saturday.
Seniors Cierra McGee and David Verburg both won the 200m at the meet. McGee crossed the finish line in an ECAC qualifying time of 23.84, while Verburg finished tops with an IC4A mark of 20.94.
The Patriots also had several section winners on the day, as the women's 4x400m relay of Shavon Briscoe, Daianna Barron, Taylor Wheaton and McGee won Section 2 and finished third overall in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:39.84. Additionally, the 4x100m relay of Katea Jemmott, McGee, Aneesha Scott and Briscoe qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships with a time of 46.29, good for seventh place.
In the hammer throw, Meredith Oare finished 38th with a distance of 40.0m and Haley Hale recorded a PR of 38.00m to finish 43rd, while Emily Muniz improved her best distance in the javelin, throwing 30.63m to finish in 33rd.
On the men's side, Jimi Tele won Flight 1 of the triple jump section I and finished fifth overall with an IC4A qualifying and PR distance of 14.81m, while Justin Little won Flight 2 of the triple jump section II and placed ninth overall after jumping a PR of 12.90m. Jason Wellington had a strong showing in the javelin, taking the top flight in Flight 1 and fifth overall with a PR and third-best distance in program history of 58.60.
Additionally, the 4x400m relay of Adrian Vaughn, Anthony Williams, Verburg and DaQuan Smalls won Section 6 and finished 11th overall with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:14.25, while the 4x100m relay of Travaughn Baker-Johnson, Verburg, Vaughn and Smalls took sixth place after posting an IC4A time of 40.88.
Mason returns to action next weekend, traveling to both the Colonial Relays at William and Mary and the Florida Relays at the University of Florida.
