ATLANTA, Ga. – The George Mason softball team (7-19, 0-3) fell 2-1 in the final game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Georgia State (18-9, 3-0) on Sunday. Callie Alford hit the walk-off single with the bases loaded to win the game for the Panthers.
Georgia State took an 1-0 lead in the second inning with Callie Alford scoring for the Panthers off a throwing error from Lauren McColgan.
The Panthers had another opportunity to extend their lead in the third inning with Brenna Morrissey and Lauren Coleman on first and second, respectively. Anna Blessing, however, was able to strike out the next batter for the third out to hold the Panthers lead to one.
Mason tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning after Brooke Blankenship hit a RBI double, allowing McColgan to score who reached on a walk.
Alford drove in the game-winning run for Georgia State in the bottom of the seventh inning. With Audrey Mason on third after reaching on a dropped third strike, Alford's single sealed the 2-1 win for Georgia State.
Kaitlyn Medlam was the winning pitcher and Alford was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Panthers.
Mason returns to the diamond for a mid-week matchup, March 27th, at home with Georgetown at 4 p.m.
