FAIRFAX, Va. - With the conclusion of the 2013 indoor track and field season
last weekend, Track and Field News has released its final Top 40 times of the
season, and the George Mason squad had several individuals recognized on the
list.
The list, compiled through the entirety of the indoor season, represents the top times from across the United States in 2013.
For the men, three individuals and one relay made the Top 40 list, including
two athletes in multiple events. Seniors David Verburg and George Empty, and junior
Adrian Vaughn were all recognized in individual events, and were joined by
freshman Angel Coburn in the 4x400m relay.
Verburg broke into the Top 10 in both the 400m and 500m. His time of 46.26
in the 400m ran at the Armory Collegiate Invitational placed him eighth, while
his time of 1:01.29 in the 500m from the Great Dane Classic was the second-best to teammate
Empty, who ran the fastest time in the country at the IC4A Indoor
Championships, crossing the line in 1:01.24. Empty also made the Top 40 times
in the 600m after running the event in 1:18.82 at the Virginia Tech Challenge,
placing him 15th. Empty and Verburg's times in the 500m now stand first and second, respectively, on the school record list.
Vaughn tied a school record in the 200m at the
IC4A Championships finishing in 21.19, which was the 36th-best national time
this season.
Verburg, Vaughn, Coburn and Empty made the Top 10 with their time of 3:07.78
at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend, good for the 10th-fastest
time in the country.
On the women's side junior Daianna Barron, senior Cierra McGee, senior Mandissa
Marshall and the relay of Barron, McGee, senior Taylor Wheaton and junior Dominique
Graham all made the list.
In the 400m, McGee's time of 53.55 she ran at the ECAC Indoor
Championships was 30th, followed closely by Barron, who came in 34th
with a time of 53.72 from the same championship meet. McGee
and Barron's times in the 400m place them second and third, respectively, in
the Mason all-time record book.
The duo was joined by
Wheaton and Graham to run the 4x400m relay, posting the 13th-fastest
time of the season, 3:35.77, at the ECAC Indoor Championships. The time was
also a school record.
In the field, Marshall's school record height of 4.23m she recorded at the
ECAC Indoor Championships placed her 29th in the country this
season.
Mason
opens its outdoor season this weekend,
competing at the VCU Spring Opener in Richmond.
