WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite pulling the score to within two
goals in the second half, the George Mason lacrosse team dropped a 10-6
decision at George Washington on Wednesday. Rachel Obregon led Mason
offensively for the second consecutive game, scoring two goals as Mason dropped
to 0-3 on the season. GW improved to 2-2.
Along with Obregon, Mason collected goals from Kirstin
Russell, Caitlin Formato, Caitlin McGinn and Allie Hilderbrandt. Olivia
Boudreau led the Colonials with four goals on the afternoon.
Mason opened the scoring with an unassisted shot from
Russell before the home squad quickly took the permanent lead using a 3-0 run.
Formato snapped the streak with her fourth goal of the season at 14:51 as GW's
Rachel Mia closed the first half with a tally for a 4-2 lead.
Boudreau tallied her second goal of the contest to open the
second half before Mason scored two of the next three from McGinn and Obregon
for a 6-4 score with 16:26 left to play. GW took control of the game with three
unanswered thereafter as the Patriots closed the game on a 2-1 run with goals
from Hilderbrandt and Obregon for the final 10-6 score.
For the game, GW won the edge in shots (25-21) and draw
controls (15-3), while Mason took the edge in ground balls (20-17). Brittany
Pastrana played the full game in cage and recorded 11 saves to draw the loss,
while Jess Hicks picked up the win with six saves. Pastrana picked up seven
ground balls and caused five turnovers for the Patriots.
Mason will look to rebound on Friday night hosting Bucknell
at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium to kick off a two-game homestand.
