RICHMOND, Va. - Mason junior Tucker Tobin was named the CAA
Baseball Player of the Week after a strong offensive performance to help lead
the Patriots to a weekend series sweep over Iona.
Appearing in all three games, Tobin batted .769 (10-for-13)
with two homers, seven runs scored and seven RBI's. He also walked twice and
stole two bases.
Hitting in the cleanup spot all weekend, Tobin started the
series by going a perfect 4-for-4 with
four runs scored, a walk and two stolen bases in Friday's affair. After walking
in his first appearance at the plate, Tobin led off the third, fifth and sixth
innings with singles and also singled in the seventh, coming home each time to
help Mason rout the Gaels, 12-3.
Tobin's hot hitting continued to Sunday, as he was
4-for-5 with two home runs, two singles, five RBI's and three runs scored in
game one of the doubleheader. Tobin singled to left center in his first plate appearance,
then homered in consecutive at-bats in the second and fourth innings and added
another single in the seventh.
In game two of the doubleheader, Tobin posted a 2-for-4
performance with two RBI's, including an RBI single in the third and an RBI
double in the fifth.
Tobin currently leads the team, hitting .480 (12-for-25)
with a double, triple and team-best two home runs. He has a team-best nine RBI's,
eight runs scored and two stolen bases.
Northeastern sophomore Nick Berger was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Steven Linkous was named the Rookie of the Week.
The Patriots return to action tomorrow, traveling to
Bethesda to face Georgetown at 3:00 p.m.
