The golf team struggled today in the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate carding a team 329 and finished in a disapointing 16th place.
The Patriots were led by senior Casey Thompson, finishing with a three-round (76-78-81) 235, and tied for 75th overall in the 100-man field at
the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Kevin Yerks finished today with an 81, after shooting a one-over par 73 in round two, to finish tied with teammate Christian Bech with a three-round 236. Freshman Mark Folkwein finished fourth among Mason teammates with a 240. Zack Lauzon carded a 241 to round out the Patriots team.
Winning the team championship was TCU with a three-round final
score of 845 (-19). The Horned Frogs were the only team under par for
the event and were just one stroke off the team tournament record of 844
(-20) set by UNLV at the 2012 event. Finishing second was St. Mary's
with a three-round score of 870 (+6). San Francisco and Texas Tech tied
for third place with a final score of 874 (+10). Rounding out the top
five was Oregon State who finished with an 11-over 875.
Taking home the individual championship was TCU's Julien Brun who
fired a tournament-record 206 (-10). Finishing second was Brun's
teammate Eli Cole who finished with a 54-hole total of 211 (-5). Texas
Tech's Finley Ewing IV followed Brun and Cole in third with a score of
213 (-3). St. Mary's Jonathan De Los Reye took fourth place with a score
of 214 (-2).
Mason will hit the links again at the Bash at the Beach, March 10-12.
