LANCASTER, Pa.- The George Mason wrestling team split duals with Bucknell and Franklin & Marshall, Saturday. Mason fell to Bucknell 21-12 and defeated Franklin & Marshall 30-7. The Patriots have now gone 2-1 in their past three duals.
Bucknell built a 21-0 lead with decision win in the first seven matches. Sahid Kargbo scored the first points for Mason with his 11-4 decision win over Derrik Russell at 141. At 149, Greg Flournoy pinned Adam Healey one minute and thirty-three seconds into their match. With a 7-5 decision win at 157 from Jaaziah Bethea the Patriot brought the score to 21-12.
The Patriots would overcome the Bucknell loss and control their dual against Franklin and Marshall. Rich Carroll-Lavorato, Zachary Isenhour, Jaaziah Bethea, Ty Knepp and Matt Meadows each won their matches by decision for a combined 15 points. Ryan Hembury and Jake Kettler each pinned their opponents. Hembury pinned Paul III Alessandrini three minutes and twenty-three seconds into their match at 184. Five minutes and forty-six seconds into their match at 285 Kettler pinned Alexander Henry.
In the third overtime period in his match at 149, Greg Flournoy came away with the win after riding Andrew Murano for the thirty second period and clinched the win after acquiring an escape in the second overtime.
Richard Durso and Colin Girdona scored the only points for Franklin and Marshall in the dual.
Mason returns to action February 10th when they host Bloomsburg for a 2:00 p.m. dual.
