FAIRFAX, Va. - In exhibition play, the George Mason lacrosse
team topped the visiting Scottish National Team, 12-7, Sunday afternoon at
George Mason Stadium. Caitlin Formato and Allie HIlderbrandt combined for seven
of Mason's goals as the Patriots outshot Scotland 38-15.
While climbing out to a 2-0 lead, Mason held Scotland off
the scoreboard until the 19:27 mark, setting the score at 2-1. The Patriots
grabbed a 4-2 lead following an Allie Hilderbrandt tally before Scotland cut
the score back to one point with a Suzi Clark goal at 6:09 for a 4-3 score.
Mason closed the first half with a 2-1 run to hold a 6-4 advantage at
intermission.
Mason opened the second half scoring three unanswered to
push out with a 9-4 lead following two Caitlin McGinn goals. Both teams scored
three additional times to close the game as Mason wrapped up the 12-7 victory.
For the game, Mason held the advantage in shots (38-15),
ground balls (26-20) and draw controls (13-8). Caroline Brouse and Brittany
Pastrana split time in cage, combining for eight saves.
Mason officially opens the 2013 season on
Wednesday visiting Longwood for a 4 p.m. matchup.
