BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior Daianna Barron set a school record
in the 600m and several other Patriots added their name to the record list as
the George Mason track & field team competed at day one of the Virginia
Tech Challenge on Friday.
Barron broke the previous school record in the 600m by
almost five seconds, running a time of 1:31.63 to finish in second place. Also
adding their names to the program record lists were junior Shavon Briscoe in
the 60m hurdles and sophomore Caitlin Eberly in the pole vault. Briscoe
finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.58, the third-fastest time
in program history. She also posted ECAC-qualifying marks in the 60m hurdles
and 200m dash (24.84, 3rd). Eberly vaulted to 3.45m, good for a
fifth-place finish and the third-best height in the Mason record books.
Several Patriots also posted PR's, including junior Katea
Jemmott in the 60m (7.72), sophomore Jasmine Robinson in the 200m (25.07),
junior Amanda Denger in the 200m (25.67) and long jump (5.20m) and sophomore
Haley Hale in the weight throw (13.54m).
On the men's side, senior David Verburg continued his
fast-paced senior campaign, winning the 200m in a time of 21.33. In addition to
being a PR, it was the fifth-fastest time in program history and also bested
his previous IC4A qualifying mark.
In the 60m hurdles, freshman Teddy Murphy set a PR and the
seventh-fastest time in program history with a time of 8.46, good for seventh
place. Sophomore Anthony Williams finished fifth in the same event, crossing
the finish line in 8.33 after running an IC4A qualifying time of 8.22 in the
prelims.
Seniors Tyler Golden, Alex Ott and Patrick Dietrick, and
freshman Sean Daugherty also added their names to the Mason record books.
Running the 600m in 1:22.42, Golden finished in sixth place while also
recording the seventh-fastest time in program history. The 3000m run saw Alex
Ott finish seventh in 8:32.38, the sixth-best time in Mason history. In the
pole vault, Daugherty vaulted 4.75m (eighth-best in program history) and
Dietrick recorded a height of 4.60 (10th best height) to add their
names.
Also recording PR's on the night were Tyler Oliver (8:46.04)
and Jacob Morgan (8:57.17) in the 300m and Travaughn Baker-Johnson in the long
jump (6.92m).
Mason wraps up action at the VT meet tomorrow.
