NOTES
Versus The Citadel
RHP Anthony Montefusco vs. RHP Austin Pritcher
The Citadel leads the all-time series 1-0, winning the only meeting, 9-8, in
Charleston during the 1990 season.
The
Citadel was tabbed to finish eighth in the Preseason SoCon Coaches' Poll and
seventh in the Preseason SoCon Media Poll. The Bulldogs return seven position
starters and most of their pitching staff from a season ago when they went
25-33 overall and 13-17 in the SoCon. They are led by Head Coach Fred Jordan,
who is entering his 22nd season at the helm of his alma mater and
has a school record 711 wins.
Versus High Point
LHP Jared Gaynor vs. LHP Sean Townsley
The two teams have not faced each other since High Point began competition as a
Division I program in 2000.
High Point
was tabbed to finish third in the North Division of the Big South Preseason
Poll, receiving four first-place votes. The Panthers finished 2012 with a 28-31
overall record and an 11-13 mark in the Big South, eventually advancing to the
semifinals of the conference tournament. They return 24 letterwinners from a
season ago, including its entire starting outfield and 12 pitchers.
Additionally, sophomore RHP Joe Goodman was named to the preseason watch list
for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award after earning All-American honors as a
freshman last year.
Versus
Kansas State
LHP Jake Kalish vs. RHP Matt Wivinis
This is the first meeting between the squads.
K-State went
27-31 overall and 7-17 in the Big 12 a season ago, reaching the Big 12
Championship for a school-record sixth-straight time. They were picked to
finish seventh in the 2013 Big 12 Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The
Wildcats return six position players this season, and that experience is
expected to help aid a young pitching staff. Junior outfielder Jared King was
named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Perfect Game and a Preseason
Third Team All-American by Baseball America. Sophomore pitcher Nate Williams
named to the preseason watch list for the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year award.
