FAIRFAX, Va. – Three wrestlers placed in the top-four of their bracket at the 2013 Cradle Gear Invitational in Lock Haven, Pa. on Sunday.
Redshirt sophomore Greg Flournoy advanced the farthest of the 17 wrestlers competing in the Invitational, making it to the finals of his 157lb. weight class. Flournoy defeated Michigan State's Roger Wildmo, Bucknell's Joe Orecchio and Lock Haven's William Randt en route to the finals match where he fell 10-0 to Buffalo's Wally Maziarz for a second place finsh.
Redshirt senior Shohei Takagi secured a third place finish at 149lbs. when he defeated fellow Patriot Ryan Hunsberger 2-0 in the third place bout. Coach Joseph Russell the performance of Flournoy, Takagi and Hunsberger.
“(It was) good to see guys compete,” said Russell. “I liked their energy level. We had stand out performances from Flournoy, Takagi and Hunsberger. These three were focused and won the tough positions.”
George Mason as a team placed seventh overall with 27 points. Michigan State won the tournament with a score of 105 points followed by Eastern Wrestling League member Bloomsburg with a total of 86 points, edging out host Lock Haven (85.5pts).
