FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior Joey Kelly and freshman Madison Baker have been selected as Atlantic 10 swimming & diving Performers of the Week after their performances at last week's Potomac Relay Invitational hosted by American University. Kelly has been selected as the conference's male Performer of the Week and Baker chosen as the women's Rookie of the Week.
Kelly and Baker were both part of the men's and women's swimming teams that each finished second overall at the Invitational. The Patriots raced in nine different relays against American University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Mount St. Mary's and the University of Mary Washington.
Kelly took part in four events, anchoring three of his four relay teams. He helped the Patriots to first place finishes in the 500-yard Freestyle relay (4:11.12) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:36.04) and second place finishes in the 200 and 800-yard Freestyle relays in times of 1:26.56 and 6:58.04, respectively. Each race consisted of at least 11 competing teams.
Baker raced in three events in her first collegiate swimming competition, guiding Mason to second place finishes in each race. The freshman swam in the 400-yard medley and the 800-yard Freestyle along with the 1000-yard Freestyle relay with teammate Melissa Davis. Finishing times were 4:08.64 in the 400 Free, 7:45.94 in the 800 Free and 10:22.55 in the 1000-yard Freestyle.
