FARIFAX, Va. – The men's and women's swimming & diving team both had strong performances at the Potomac Relays hosted by American University in Washington, D.C. Both squads totaled a combined four first place finishes in their respective relays and 11 second place finishes.
Competing teams included Towson University, Mount Saint Mary's, George Washington University, Georgetown University, the University of Mary Washington and host American University.
The men's team placed first in three of their nine relay events. The Patriots were victorious in the 500-yard freestyle relay, 300-yard butterfly relay and the 400- yard medley relay. The winning team of Colin Schwartz, Jesse Burnley, Daniel Camozzo and Joey Kelly completed their 500 free relay in a time of 4:11.12, over one second ahead of second place Towson.
Kelly was also part of the winning 400 medley relay that also included Fernando Rubio, William Clendenin and Brandon Nestor. Mason grabbed first out of 12 teams in a time of 3:36.04. Second place finishes for the men came in the 200 Freestyle relay, 800 Freestyle relay, 1000 Freestyle relay, 300 Backstroke relay and the 300 Breaststroke relay.
Mason's women took first place in the 300-yard Backstroke relay, defeating Towson by over four seconds in a time of 2:53.28. Senior Paige Impink was a part of three second place finishing relays, including the 200 Freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay. The women also finished second in the 500 Freestyle relay and the 1000 Freestyle relay.
The swimming & diving team returns to action in the pool on Saturday, October 19 in a meet against Delaware and Georgetown in Newark, Del.
