FAIRFAX, Va. – The Mason men's swimming & diving team picked up their first team victory of the season and women's team fell short as both squads competed at the University of Delaware this afternoon.
Both squads faced the Blue Hens in a dual this afternoon in Newark Del. The men's team came away with the 163.5-136.5 team victory while the women scored 139 points to Delaware's 161.
Mason's men were victorious in 11 events as they went on to claim the victory. Three of the events were won by senior Fernando Rubio who competed in four events total. Rubio won the 200-yard Individual Medley (1:54.84), the 500-yard Freestyle (4:42.86) and the 1000-yard Freestyle (9:38.98).
Senior Nick Guttendorf claimed first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, compiling totals in each event of 285.98 and 247.32 points, respectively. Junior William Clendenin was a winner of two events of his own, the 100 and 200 –yard Breaststroke.
Freshman Madison Baker was a multi-event winner for the women, including an individual first place finish in the 1000-yard Freestyle with a time of 10:24.32. She also came away victorious in the 200-yard Butterfly and the 500-yard Freestyle. Paige Impink was a first place finisher in the 100-yard Butterfly (57.96) and earned second place finishes in the 100-yard Freestyle and the 200 and 400-yard Medley Relays.
The Patriots host their first home meet of the season November 1-2 as they host Towson, the College of Charleston and Northeastern at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
