FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason head lacrosse coach Lauren Hay
announced the hiring of Nancy Baker as an assistant coach. Baker joins the
Patriots from Brown University where she was a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse.
"We are excited to welcome Nancy into our lacrosse family,"
commented Hay. "Her experience at Brown and her background in coaching will
help develop our student-athletes in reaching their highest potential on and
off the lacrosse field. Nancy brings great energy and passion to our team."
At Brown, Baker served as a team captain her senior year,
helping the team to a 6-8 record. In four years at Brown, Baker appeared in 25
contests, scored seven goals and helped on two while working through two season-ending
injuries.
In addition to being a student-athlete, Baker taught
lacrosse to children, teens and Special Olympics athletes in the Providence,
R.I. community. Baker also served as the team's peer academic advisor and one
of the service leaders. During the spring of 2012, Baker worked with other
students to create the non-profit organization Rhode Island Adaptive Lacrosse
to teach the sport to children with disabilities in Rhode Island.
"I couldn't have imagined a better University and program to
begin my college coaching career at," stated Baker. "In just my short time
here, I already see what a dedicated and hardworking team and staff we have. I
would like to thank Coach Hay, Coach Norton, the team and rest of the George
Mason Athletic Administration for giving me this opportunity. The aptitude of
this program and its potential for greatness is outstanding and I am excited to
be on staff for what we believe will be a successful era for Mason lacrosse."
Baker graduated from Brown in May 2012 with a degree in
Human Biology.
