FAIRFAX, Va. - After a full day of grappling, Mason went 0-4 on the day against Rider, Binghamton, Boston and Hofstra in the Colonial Athletic Association duals on Saturday. The duals were held in the Field House and consisted of four rounds.
Mason got out to an early 5-0 lead against Rider in round one with Rich Lavorato's technical fall win at 125. Rider would bring the score to within one with Jimmy Morris' major decision win over Zach Isenhour at 133. Rider extended their lead out to 29-8 for the dual win by winning seven of the eight remaining matches.
The Patriots faced the Binghamton Bearcats in round two of the duals. Binghamton took an early 7-0 lead with a decision and major decision win in the 125 and 133 weight classes, respectively. Sahid Kargbo put the first points on the board for Mason with his decision win over Dan Riggi at 141, Binghamton still lead the dual 7-3.
The Bearcats extended their lead to 12-3 with a technical fall win at 149. At 157, Jaaziah Bethea won his match with Brian Conrad by a 13-4 major decision to bring the Patriots within five. The Patriots took the lead for the first time in the dual when Ty Knepp pinned Vincent Grella one minute and four seconds into their match at 165.
Binghamton regained the lead with a decision win in the next match and secured the dual win with a technical fall, win by fall and decision win at 184, 197 and 285 for a final score of 29-13.
In the third round of the dual, Mason squared off against Boston University. Boston got out to an early 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish to go on and win the dual 22-11. Kargo and Robertson added four points each for the Patriots with major decision wins in their respective matches. Matt Meadows added the last three points for Mason with his 11-7 decision win at 197.
Mason went up against Hofstra in the final round of the duals. Hofstra defeated the Patriots 32-8. Bethea and Knepp scored the lone points for the Patriots.
Mason returns to the mat January 30th when they travel to VMI for a 7:30 dual.
