The George Mason men's golf team began their fall season at the STX Match Play Tournament, hosted by Towson University. In the first of three rounds the Patriots defeated California University of Pa, 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 at the Towson Country Club.
Freshman Mark Folkwein won 3 & 2 over Chad Pappasergi at the No. 2 spot, while returning Patriots Alec Kormanec and Zack Lauzon each picked up a point in the No. 3 and No. 4 seeded matches. Bryan Giles defeated Mark Paradise in the No. 6 spot, 5 & 3 to finish off the scoring. Wes Liu and Austin Stoddard finished all square to split the point.
In other quarterfinal action,
Bethune-Cookman defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4 ½-2 ½, and Towson Mason upended Rutgers 4-3.
The semifinal and consolation rounds will tee off from the Towson Golf & Country club Sunday morning.
