FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason rowing team will compete in
four fall races and host the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Championships
for the fourth consecutive year in the spring as head coach Geoff Dillard
released the 2012-13 schedule.
For the fourth straight year, Mason kicks off the season with
the Occoquan Chase where the Varsity 8 captured first-place last season and the
Varsity 4 and Novice 4 took second-place. Following the October 14 race, the
Patriots travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts for the world's largest two-day
rowing event, the 48th Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 20.
The Head of the Occoquan will take place on November 3 at
Sandy Run Regional Park as Mason closes out the fall portion of the schedule on
Nov. 10 at the Frostbite Regatta in Camden, New Jersey.
Six races comprise the spring portion of the schedule in
addition to the CAA Championships, which will close out the season for the
Patriots on May 19.
Mason opens the spring slate racing North Carolina for the
third straight season as the two squads will compete on Lake Lure in North
Carolina on March 14. The Patriots will then head to the Murphy Cup on March 23
in Philadelphia, Pa. before returning to their home course for the Occoquan
Sprints on April 7.
The Patriots will return to Camden, N.J. for the second time
in the season competing in the Knecht Cup, April 13-14 before closing out the
month facing Rutgers in New Brunswick on April 27.
After a two-week break, Mason returns to action
at the 75th annual Dad Vail Regatta, the most renowned rowing event
of the season. Following the trip to Philadelphia, the Patriots host the CAA
Championship on May 19 to close out the season.
