Mason Golf Defeats California University in First Round Match Play at Towson

Missouri Leads CHAMP/Patriot Intercollegiate

The Missouri Tigers men's golf team has a ten stroke lead after two rounds of play at the CHAMP/Patriot Intercollegiate held at the 6,857-yard, par 71 Laurel Hills Golf Course in Lorton, Va. Delaware is in second place with a two-round 576 (+8) and Hofstra third after shooting 582 (+14).

Missouri scored a team 290 in the morning round, but blistered the course in the afternoon with a 276 (-8) to finish 566 (-2). The Tigers had three players finish in the top 10 individually, including leader Emilio Cuartero who carded a 71-67=138 (-4). Tiger Jace Long is tied for third after shooting even par and Ryan Zech is tied for fifth at one-over par.

The Patriots fielded two teams today, George Mason Green and Mason Gold. The Green team finished eighth and Mason Gold 13th after the first 36 holes. Freshman Mark Folkwein leads all Mason players, carding a 147 (72-75) and is tied for 21st. Junior Kevin Yerks is three strokes back of his teammate (76-74=150) and tied for 32nd. Patriots Christian Bech leads the Gold team after shooting a 151 (78-73=151).

The final round will be played Sunday morning with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
