The Towson Tigers edged out the Patriots 4-3 in the championship match of the three-day STX Match Play Tournament. With the match tied at 3-3, Towson junior Matt Fry sunk a five-foot putt on the 18th hole to give the Tigers the deciding point and push past Mason in the same dramatic fashion they did all tournament, defeating Rutgers and Fairfield by identical 4-3 scores and knocking down putts on the 18th or extra holes. 

Fry needed to halve either of the final two holes in his match with Mason's Christian Bech to clinch the title for Towson.  Bech finished the tournament with two close loses, losing both 1 up and played a match all square.

Six Patriots won matches during the three days of play, including a perfect 3-0 record from senior Bryan Giles. Top-seeded Kevin Yerks defeated the Tigers Joe Gunerman today, 4 & 3 and finished the tournament with two straight wins to go 2-1.Three other players finished 2-1, with Freshman Mark Folkwein dropping his first match today after opening with two wins. Senior Alec Kormanec won 4 & 3 today and sophomore Zack Lauron lost his first match today 3 & 2.

The Patriots will travel to Richmond on September 23-24 for the VCU Shootout.
