Recent George Mason graduate Josh Apple has
been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches
Association of America (GCAA) for the second consecutive year.
The 2012 graduate earned the award after
finishing with a 3.94 GPA while attaining his B.A. in Communications, with a
minor in sports journalism, at Mason. His work in the classroom netted him Dean's
List honors every semester, including three semesters with a 4.0 GPA. Apple was also recognized as a Mason Provost
Scholar for three straight years. The award recognizes student-athletes who have
earned at least 38 credit hours at Mason and have achieved a cumulative grade
point average of 3.75 or better.
On the course,
Apple participated in all 10 tournament for the Patriots his senior year. His
stroke average was 76.2, and carded a low round of 69. Apple won two matches at
the VSGA Amateur Championship the summer, eventually losing in the
quarterfinals. He also qualified for both the Virginia State Open and the U.S. Amateur,
which will be played August 13-19 at Cherry Hills, CO.
Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II and
the NAIA have been announced by the GCAA. A total of 149 players in Division I,
54 in Division II and 14 in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 26 honorees
were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon
All-America Scholars. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America
Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete
in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent
of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a
stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and
79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of
3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing
at his college or university.
