LONDON, England - Samyr Laine and Richard Phillips wrapped
up competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics, as Laine finished 11th
in the triple jump finals and Phillips advanced to the semifinal heats of the
110-meter hurdles.
Laine, a George Mason track and field volunteer assistant,
reached the finals of the triple jump after finishing 10th in
preliminary action. Competing for the Haitian National Team in the finals,
Laine lept a distance of 16.65m to finish in 11th place. Christian
Taylor of the United States captured gold with a mark of 17.81m.
Meanwhile, Phillips advanced to the 110-meter hurdles semifinal
action, but was unable to finish the heat after sustaining an injury. Phillips,
representing Jamaica, qualified for the semifinals after finishing fifth in his
preliminary heat, crossing in a time of 13.47.
