George Mason track and field volunteer assistant coach Samyr Laine will take
part in the upcoming 2012 Olympics in the triple jump as a member of the Haiti
National Team.
It will be the first Olympics for Laine, who missed
qualifying for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Since the Haitian team does not
host a qualifying meet, he earned the opportunity to represent Haiti by way of
posting an automatic qualifying distance in 2011.
Laine has been an assistant coach for the Patriots for the
past five seasons. In addition to assisting the Mason track team, he has
competed at several meets throughout the year in preparation for the Olympics,
most recently finishing in fourth place with a distance of 16.85m in the triple
jump at the Diamond League Aviva London Grand Prix meet over the weekend.
Documenting his training progress and anticipation for the
Olympics at the end of July, you can follow Laine on his personal website at www.samyrlaine.com.
