VIRGINIA BEACH --George Mason's recent graduate Josh Apple won two match play contests today at the VSGA Amateur Championship played at the 7,100 yard, par 72 Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach. He will play Tim Osterbind (Birkdale GC) Friday morning in a quarterfinal match-up.

Apple defeated Nick Austin (Stonehenge G&CC) 4 and 3 in the first round this morning. In the second round he won 1up on Daniel Walker.

Former and current Mason golfers Scott Shingler (1995), Jimmy Delp (2000), Marshall Tinsley (2011), Alec Kormanec (2013) and Kevin Yerks (2013) each fell in the first round of match play today.

The quarterfinals and semifinals are Friday, June 29 and the scheduled 36-hole final is on Saturday, June 30.
