OMAHA, Neb. - The 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials begin today and three swimmers with Mason ties will be in the pool at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. The trials stretch from June 25 - July 2, and give swimmers the opportunity to make their Olympic dreams come true.

Graduating seniors Preston Wolter (Clarksville, MD) and Ashley Danner (Springfield, VA) will be competing this week, as well as recent graduate Eric Knight (2010). Wolter will swim in the 400m IM, the first event scheduled today, as well as the 200m butterfly. Danner will swim in four events, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m IM and 50m freestyle. Knight in 100m and 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.

Danner, was named the CAA Swimmer of the Year and CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Swimmer of the Year after finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships. The Springfield, Va. native has competed at the NCAA Championships all four years of her collegiate career. Wolter has been a top swimmer in the CAA in several events, 500 and 1650 Yard Freestyle as well as the 400 yard IM, all throughout his four-year career with the Patriots. He was the top scorer for the men with 60 points at the 2012 CAA Championships.

Knight had an outstanding career at Mason. He won the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Championships award both his junior and senior seasons. He set school, pool, meet and CAA top performance records with his first-place time in the 100-yard freestyle as a senior. He also set a meet and program record and CAA top performance with his first-place time in the 200-yard freestyle of 1:35.85.
