George Mason rowing head coach Geoff Dillard recently
announced the promotion of current assistant coach Ted Nagorsen to Associate
Head Coach. Nagorsen is entering his third year as a coach with the Patriots
and fifth overall as a rowing coach.
"Ted has come into our program and has done a tremendous
job," commented Dillard. "He has taken on a leadership role in our coaching
staff and offered great knowledge about the sport of rowing. On top of his
coaching duties, Ted will act as our recruiting coordinator."
Nagorsen joined the Patriots in the fall of 2010 and began
working with the freshmen class his first year before moving to a varsity coach
this past season. In his inaugural season at Mason, the Novice 8 claimed a gold
medal at the Frostbite Regatta as the Second Novice 8 captured a third-place
finish in the fall event.
Spring action saw
highlights from both the Novice 8 and Novice 4 boats as the N8 reached the finals
of the Murphy Cup and took a second-place finish in the finals of the Occoquan
Sprints. With a second-place finish in the heats and semi-finals of the Knecht
Cup, the Novice 4 advanced to Grand Final action.
Mason saw continued success in Nagorsen's second season as
the Varsity 8 had a strong fall campaign with first place finishes at the
Occoquan Chase and Head of the Occoquan, in addition to a fourth place finish
at the competitive Head of the Charles. In the spring, the V8 reached the
Petite Finals of both the Occoquan Sprints and Knecht Cup, while the Second
Varsity 8 advanced to the Grand Final at the Occoquan Sprints.
Nagorsen joined Mason following two years as an
assistant coach at his alma mater Mercyhurst College.
