AUSTIN, Texas - George Mason junior track and field sprinter David
Verburg was recently recognized by the International Association of Athletics
Federation (IAAF) for his outstanding performance at the NCAA East Regionals
over the weekend.
Verburg, who has claimed the 400 title at the CAA, IC4A and
NCAA East Regional Meets this spring ran the event in 45.08, just .02 off of
his personal-best time (45.06) which he recorded during the CAA Championships
earlier this month at George Mason Stadium. The article is available here.
His time of 45.06 posted at the CAA Outdoor Championships
was an Olympic 'A' standard time and is currently the second-fastest time in
program history and in the country behind Gil Roberts of Texas Tech, who posted
a time of 45.04 earlier this season.
Verburg will look to capture a NCAA individual title as he
heads to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, hosted by Drake University, on June
6-9. The semifinals of the 400m will take place at 6:45 pm on June 6.
