The George Mason track and field team continues postseason action at the
NCAA East Region Championships this weekend on the campus of the University of
North Florida.
Coming off of CAA and IC4A team championships, the men will send 10
individuals and one relay to the regional championships, while the women will
be represented by three individuals and one relay.
Everett
Hackett and Lavell
Handy are the lone multiple event qualifiers for the Patriots, as Hackett
made the list in both the 5000m and 10000m runs, while Lavell
Handy will compete in the long and triple jumps. Also competing are Rachaunn
Ruffin(100m), Adrian Vaughn (200m), David
Verburg, Nick Vaughn and Ja-Vell Bullard in the 400m, George
Empty (400m hurdles), Travaughn Baker-Johnson (long jump), Dwight Webley (triple jump) and the 4x400m relay of Adrian
Vaughn, Nick Vaughn, Verburg and Empty.
For the women, Cierra McGee will compete in the 400m dash, while Mandissa
Marshall will take part in the pole vault and Kelsey
Reese will throw in the javelin. The 4x400m relay of McGee, Daianna Barron,
Taylor
Wheaton and Dominique
Graham also qualified.
Ruffin, Webley, Handy, Nick Vaughn, Adrian Vaughn, Verburg, Baker-Johnson,
Bullard, Empty and Marshall all competed at the East Regionals a year ago, with
Verburg, Handy and Marshall all advancing to the NCAA Championships from the
meet.
