FAIRFAX, Va. – The
Patriots concluded their third conference series of the season with a loss to
JMU by a score of 5-2.
Mason jumped out to an early lead in the game when freshman
second baseman Brooke Blankenship homered to left center, scoring Tori Dudley,
who led off the inning with a hard single up the middle. The Dukes responded with two runs of their
own in the top of the fourth inning but Mason did well to limit the damage,
getting out of a bases loaded jam to end the inning.
Madison added another run in the top of the sixth inning to
take the lead 3-2. The Patriots battled
back in the bottom of the sixth when Alyssa See and Blankenship started the
inning with back to back singles. The
next batter was Rachael Davies who was intentionally walked. Unfortunately, Mason could not capitalize on
the early inning success and did not produce any runs.
The Dukes scored another two runs in the top of the seventh
when Sarah Mooney hit a two run double to right center for the final two runs
of the game, making the final score 5-2.
Mason's next game will be on Wednesday when the Patriots
host George Washington at the Mason Softball Complex at 4:00pm.
