FAIRFAX, Va. - Hofstra scored six unanswered goals to open
the contest and carried the momentum the rest of the game, sealing a 23-7
victory Sunday afternoon against George Mason in Colonial Athletic Association
play. Rachel Obregon completed a hat trick for the Patriots as five seniors
were recognized before the contest on Senior Day.
Obregon was one of five Patriots to score in the contest as
Emily Ellisen, Katie Mascolo, Mary Schwartz and Caitlin Formato each scored for
Mason (2-10, 0-3 CAA). Five different Patriots recorded a caused turnover while
goalkeeper Katie Teague led with two ground balls. Teague split time in cage
with Brittany Pastrana who played 43:12 and recorded seven saves. Ellisen
collected a team-high five draw controls.
For the Pride (3-9, 2-1 CAA), Brittain Altomare, Jenn Ward, Maryann
Miller, April Iannetta and Jill Maier each scored three times to lead the way. A
total of 12 different players scored for the visiting team as seven posted a
caused turnover. Liz Anders led with two ground balls and Altomore collected a
team-high four draw controls. Jaclyn Pandolf and Kelsey Gregerson split time in
cage with Pandolf picking up the win and four saves - Gregerson recorded two
saves.
The Pride jumped out with a quick 6-0 lead with eight
minutes expired before Mason snapped the run with goals from Mascolo and
Obregon. Hofstra, however, responded scoring the next 12 covering both periods for
an 18-2 advantage with 22:08 to play. Schwartz scored unassisted at 20:38 as
Obregon scored for the second time at 10:52 on a free position attempt for a
20-4 tally. The Pride's Lindsay McKinnon scored unassisted before the Patriots put
together a 3-0 run with goals from Formato, Ellisen and Obregon setting a 21-7
score with 3:34 remaining. Hofstra closed the game scoring the final two goals
to account for the final 23-7 score.
The Patriots close out their home regular season
slate on Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. against Old Dominion.
